What is Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding ?

A woman's normal menstrual cycle is guided by hormonal signals for ovulation. Vaginal bleeding is expected every month as part of that cycle. But when the cycle's hormonal signaling gets thrown off, the pattern of bleeding can change, resulting in alternating heavy and light periods or spotting, or in unpredictable shorter and longer cycles. This irregular type of bleeding is known as dysfunctional uterine bleeding or anovulatory bleeding.

Screening and Diagnosis

During the medical history and physical examination, which will include a pelvic exam, your doctor will asks you about symptoms that can point to a cause for the irregular bleeding or other hormonal abnormalities. The doctor may perform various tests to rule out these causes:

  • Pregnancy - urine or blood tests

  • Thyroid hormone and prolactin hormone abnormalities - blood tests

  • Menopause (especially in a woman in her 40s or 50s) - blood tests to determine if estrogen levels are falling, suggestive of the beginning stages of menopause

  • Abnormalities of the uterus or ovaries - a transvaginal ultrasound, in which a small, rod-like probe is inserted into the vagina, taking specific measurements of the endometrial lining

  • The possibility of cancer in a woman over the age of 35 - an endometrial biopsy, done in the office, in which the doctor uses a speculum to visualize the cervix, then inserts a thin, straw-like tube through the cervix into the uterus and brushes it along the endometrial layer to collect a tissue sample.

If you are having heavy bleeding, your doctor will also check your blood and iron levels to see if you are anemic.

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding &Homeopathy.

Normally the patients are put on "Hormone Therapy". The preparations in material doses are the combination of hormones. It can control bleeding or produce a withdrawl bleeding. But these are not helpful for longtime treatment. In such situation they produce enormous side effects. There is no permanent cure with hormonal preparations though it is very helpful only in emergencies.

Homeopathy drugs used not only help to arrest the bleeding but also regularise the periods. It is the only method of healing that surely sets sick women on the permanent road to recovery.
